Benefits for all in volunteering Volunteers in every walk of life are only just being reconised for the work that they do. Most do not want acolades or rewards, as the act of volunteering and the satisfaction they get from seeing others enjoy and appreciate their labours are often more than enough. This essential parkrun role explores how the feeling of a lost sense of community spirit has now returned to our Saturday mornings thanks to these volunteers coming out in their thousands, performing the neccessary tasks to enable the weekly event to happen. From marshalling, timekeeping, barcode scanning, token givers, token sorters, briefing givers, funnel helpers, set-up do-ers, run-directors and event-directors, all cheering on the other important factor....the parkrunners, walkers, shufflers, buggy pushers* and those being held back or pulled along by their dogs** So run, jog, walk or support but just remember to register on-line to be mailed each week about whether you wish to put your name down to take up one of the many volunteering roles for the next event or future parkruns. The RD will put you on the roster and you can even let them know what role you prefer and they will do their best! Why the picture of one of parkrun's arrows? This is what we may have to put in place of an encouraging, cheering, clapping, high-vis, enthusiastic marshall, if we don't get enough volunteers! Become part of the volunteers community, don't rush off if your Saturday morning is looking free, help us to clear-up and stay for a chat and coffee afterwards*** No restrictions, any experience, the team will always give you training and advice for your particular role.
* ** at most parkruns, check before to avoid disappointment on the day as local rules apply especially where the ground is unsuitable for buggies and , as with Wendover Woods, horses share some of the same paths which can be quite uneven and therefore the local parkrun committee have deemed it would be potentially unsafe.......and baby wouldn't reallyenjoy!
*** cafes or meeting places are at or near most parkruns. Check the event information on parkrun.com
